Musa velutina (Pink Ornamental Banana)

Clump forming. Relatively cold hardy and quick growing in frost-free locations, growing to 2-3m. In the garden, this plant is best cut back annually in late winter as this encourages new growth in spring. Generally flowers within one year, bananas are pink and self-peel on the small bunch as they mature. Edible flesh but too many seeds to make a meal of it.

  • Germination Before planting, the seeds should ideally have a 24-hour warm water soak. Germinate in a warm location and transplant into individual pots as the seedlings grow. Seeds can be slow to germinate

They are considered a hardy banana, mature early, bloom within one year. But take around 5-10 years for the plant to reach its full height.
