Albuca spiralis (corkscrew albuca or frizzle sizzle)
Albuca spiralis (corkscrew albuca or frizzle sizzle)Winter growing South African desert bulb with bizarre spiralling leaves. The more intense the sunlight and stress, the more the leaves spiral. Very easy as a pot plant so long as the adult bulbs are allowed to go totally dormant in late spring and kept dry until autumn. Seedlings can flower in their second winter growth period.
Leaves grow quickly and are followed in late winter by yellowish flowers. Bulbs love to grow crowded so seedlings can be left growing together as a clump. Bulbs eventually reach 5 cm in diameter.
Sow seeds in autumn and keep moist but in a sunny position once they germinate. Keep them damp right through summer and into their second growth period. 30 seeds/packet
