Chaenorhinum origanifolium
Sometimes referred to as a dwarf Snapdragon. It is a perennial alpine plant but does well in Northland so quite an adaptable soft foliaged little ground cover. Not a commonly found plant in New Zealand but a surprisingly easy one to grow. Very attractive as a ground cover for pots. In the garden, it self sows but only very sparingly and there are no reports of weed potential. Seeds are small and black and are best germinated in autumn or spring at around 15°C when they should germinate within 3 weeks. Best initially grown in pots and transplanted at any time once large enough to move. Seeds in the packet are mixed with some plant bits as they are difficult to separate.
