Papaver somniferous ‘Double Purple’
Collected from the best doubles but some plants will have only single or weakly double petals.
Seeds need cool temperatures to germinate, if sown outdoors they usually come up in late April into May but can also be planted right through winter and early Spring. Seeds can be germinated in pots but it is best to sow 6-10 seeds/small pot and once up and with some leaves they can be carefully transplanted as a small group where they are to grow. For early poppies, sow seeds in bagged pots and keeping them in the fridge for 5 days. Seeds will germinate at fridge temperature and can then be grown on and planted out.
