White alpine strawberries (Fragaria vesca var. albiflora)

White alpine strawberries (Fragaria vesca var. albiflora)

VERY LIMITED STOCK

White alpine strawberries (Fragaria vesca var. albiflora) are a unique and flavorful variety with a sweet, pineapple-like taste. They’re my personal favourites of the strawberry range and they are extremely prolific. They are a clumping form rather than runners, so perfect for wide hanging baskets so the berrys can droop over the edges and have room to grow.

These perennial plants will reward you with small, aromatic berries from late spring to autumn.

  • Approximate minimum seed count per pack

    25 or more

  • Germination

To grow them from seed, start by stratifying the seeds: place them in a sealed container with moist sand or paper towels and refrigerate them for 3-4 weeks. After chilling, sow the seeds on the surface of a moist, well-draining seed-starting mix, as they require light to germinate. Maintain a temperature of 15-20°C (59-68°F) and keep the soil consistently moist. Germination can take 2-4 weeks. Once seedlings develop a few true leaves, transplant them into individual pots and harden them off before planting outdoors in a sunny or partially shaded spot with fertile, well-drained soil. These perennial plants will reward you with small, aromatic berries from late spring to autumn.  Alpine strawberries are clumping rather than runners, so will need plenty of space to grow
